A Tesla driver watching a video game on his car’s entertainment system slammed into a police cruiser in North Carolina, according to a news report. The driver, Devainder Goli, 27, was charged with a move-over law violation and watching television while operating a vehicle. The crash occurred on the evening of July 26 on U.S. Highway 64 in Nash County. The Tesla’s Autopilot system was engaged at the time, but the driver was still expected to remain alert and prepared to take over control of the vehicle. The police cruiser had its lights on and was stopped on the highway shoulder to assist a motorist whose vehicle had run off the road. The officer was inside the cruiser when the Tesla slammed into its rear end. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Goli told investigators he was watching a video game on the Tesla’s entertainment system at the time of the crash.
