Pinterest Bans All Ads With Weight Loss Language or Imagery

Pinterest has announced a new ban on all ads with weight loss language and imagery, including testimonials regarding weight loss or weight loss products, and ads with language or imagery that promotes or glorifies weight loss. The move is part of Pinterest’s ongoing efforts to make the platform a more positive and inclusive space. The company cited data showing that 1 in 3 people who engage with weight loss ads end up developing an unhealthy relationship with their bodies or eating disorders. Pinterest’s head of core product, Christine Deputy, stated that the platform wants to be an inspiring and positive place for people to put their mental health and emotional well-being first. The ban covers any language or imagery that promotes harmful behavior or body shaming. Pinterest will continue to allow ads promoting healthy lifestyles and habits, but they must be body-neutral and avoid focusing on weight loss.
