Google has unveiled its conversational AI service called ‘Bard’ to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Bard is powered by Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) and aims to provide high-quality responses to queries. Google CEO Sundar Pichai described Bard as an ’experimental conversational AI service’ that combines the ‘breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power of our large language models.’ Bard will initially be released to ’trusted testers’ before a wider public rollout. The move comes as tech giants race to develop and commercialize generative AI models capable of engaging in human-like dialogue. Microsoft has also announced plans to integrate ChatGPT into its Bing search engine and other products. However, concerns have been raised about the potential misuse of such AI systems, including the generation of misinformation and biased content. Google has emphasized the importance of developing AI responsibly and plans to incorporate safeguards to prevent harmful outputs from Bard.
