Europe's Cybersecurity Chief: Disruptive Attacks Have Doubled Recently

According to the head of the European Union’s cybersecurity agency, the number of disruptive cyberattacks against critical sectors has doubled in the past year. Juhan Lepassaar, the executive director of the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, stated that the attacks have become more sophisticated, costly, and frequent. He highlighted the recent cyberattacks on a satellite internet network and wind farms in Germany as examples of the growing threat. Lepassaar emphasized the need for increased cybersecurity measures and cooperation between nations to combat these attacks. He also warned that state-backed hacking groups could potentially target critical infrastructure, such as energy plants or transport networks, causing significant disruptions. The agency is working to strengthen cybersecurity across the EU and provide support to member states in addressing these threats.
