President Joe Biden highlighted his administration’s efforts to protect the upcoming U.S. elections from hacking and foreign interference during a meeting with leaders from companies across the technology sector. Biden reiterated that the tech companies have a “patriotic obligation” to take “every step more” to prevent future intrusions. The president warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to renew efforts to meddle in the 2024 presidential election. Biden said the U.S. has made progress in hardening its cybersecurity since the 2016 election, when Russian hackers leaked emails and other documents from the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s campaign. But he said there are “still a lot of unresolved issues that have to be worked on vigorously.” The meeting was attended by leaders from Microsoft, Google, IBM, Amazon, Apple, and other tech giants.
