According to a new study by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), up to 8 million jobs in the UK could be at risk of being replaced by artificial intelligence (AI) and automation in the coming years. The study analyzed the tasks and skills required for different occupations and found that around 7.4% of the workforce is employed in roles that are highly automatable. These jobs, such as administrative roles, customer service, and transportation, are at a high risk of being automated. Additionally, the study found that another 25.5% of jobs have a medium risk of being automated, meaning that some tasks within those roles could be replaced by AI. The ONS emphasized that while AI and automation may eliminate certain jobs, they will also create new opportunities in fields like data analysis, software development, and AI engineering. The study highlights the need for workers to adapt and acquire new skills to remain competitive in the changing job market.
